THE BEST INTEREST OF YOUR CHILD
1971, Dr. Judith Wallerstein, director of the Center for the Family in Transition in Corte Madera, California began a study of sixty middle-class California families who were experiencing divorce. Since that time she has followed the members of these families---parents and children. She observed the adults as they reconstructed their lives and studied their children as they grew up and entered adulthood.

Her findings were published in two books, "Surviving the Breakup" and "Second Chances". These books have been of major importance to professionals working in the field of divorce because they have called attention to the long-lasting psychological, economic and social effects of divorce on children.
The first book, "Surviving the Breakup" contained her findings after the first five years following a divorce and "Second Chances" reported on the ten-year juncture in these families lives.
