A NEW STAGE HAS BEGUN...

I knew this time and activity was inevitable. I knew it was necessary. I even knew that deep down inside I wanted it to happen, too. I just wasn't sure it was supposed to happen so soon. I mean, I wrote over a thousand letters to my congressman, in fact everyones congressman, on the wisdom of writing and passing into law a bill that said a child may not have this kind of freedom until they are old enough to be truly ready to handle it and that only the parent would have the right to decide when that could be; anytime following graduation from college (except for child geniuss who must wait till at least their 21st birthday no matter what and even if a child had his or herself legally emancipated, this law would still apply). However, none of them, not a one of them, thought this was a very good idea for a law and refused to even put the idea for it on the ballot.

So, I gave in and gave up to the inevitable and waved goodbye with a smile on my face and in my heart as I watched her drive away. Not ten minutes later my phone rang and it was she, calling to tell me she had arrived safely at her destination and she would be home in a couple of hours. Two hours later, after first calling me to say she was leaving to come home, she arrived safely. All was well. Life now goes on. Another stage of life has come and is in progress just as it should be. And I want you all to know I'm doing just fine with it.  Thank God for Xanax...NOT!

It's the loving and compassionate actions of my daughter that have made the need for something like that totally unnecessary. In all modesty, I've done a good job and shes a good girl young woman and she'll be fine. But if she even once starts talking about any one boy in particular, I'm locking her in her room till she's an old woman!
