And yet, when the day comes and the
baby arrives there is the automatic assumption that they have all these tools
already built in while their husbands/significant others don’t. If the women
were spending as much time preparing themselves for their careers as the men
were then when, exactly, did they acquire all this knowledge in such massive
amounts to place them so far ahead of the men when it came to raising a
child?
Since, with very few exceptions, no one is given a course in child
rearing prior to the birth, then it must be assumed that both partners are
equally prepared (or ill-prepared as the case usually is in most families) to
deal with the complexities, joys and sorrows of parenthood. So, if all of
this be true, then it has to fall back on what we all have to have buried
deep within us, with the exception of breast feeding which I will gladly
concede to the women as their having it all over the men in this one area.
