Created by Jo Seidler, a single mother with a sense of humor and a sense of purpose, Making Lemonade has become the leading one-stop-place for single parents on the Internet since 1997.

Divorced when Sam was 4, didn't find much when she searched for online community support, so she created her own web page. "A Day in the Life of a Single Mother" was so successful, it further evolved into Making Lemonade, a sophisticated site that offers links to single parenting resources, bulletin boards, poetry, stories, email chat groups, and a semi-monthly newsletter.

The site tag line is "Remember, you're not alone", and that is what the site offers - a feeling of community, and a place to find tools, resources and information to help you prosper as a single mom or dad.

TESTIMONIALS

  • I just wanted to say well done for compiling making lemonade.  I am in the UK and feel quite out of touch with the positive kinds of messages that pour out of making lemonade.  I would like to think there is a positive network here in the UK but haven't found it yet - do you know of one? Mainly, I really congratulate you on actively speaking out positively about the strengths and courage of single parents.  I am a single parent and doing research to try to highlight the demands on and commitment of lone parents to make the best of life.  But it seems there is more of an outspoken positivity in the US?  Do you think this is so?  Harrie, Oxford.

  • You're not a lemon, but a peach. You're also the lead of my column this week.  Jackie Loohauis, Milwaukee Journal Reporter.  http://www.jsonline.com/enter/netlife/loohauis/apr01/loohcol05040401.asp

  • Thanks so much. I think I need to reach out to other single parents. This can be a lonely experience and I tend to isolate myself...not always by choice but after a full day of work and helping kids with homework, driving to soccer and dance practice... little time is left for meeting other adults going through the same things. I am trying to stay positive. I also teach yoga a couple of nights a week to keep my sanity. Turning outward had always helped me cope too. I will spend some time this weekend trying to connect with others through your website. Thanks again for your note. It made my day. Just wanted to say thanks for being an inspiration....Beth
