We only had a few days there, so I will relate the highlights of our time in Williamsburg. Our modest hotel room was clean, comfortable and had a pool. Those are our usual prerequisites. The people were great and offered us coffee, juice and donuts, which they served in the library, at no additional cost. What a pleasant surprise! When we are on vacation, especially with limited time, we don't always allow for a full sit-down breakfast anyway. The kids just want to start their day. We covered both Busch Gardens and Water Country USA in one day. They are right across the road from one another. The rides at Busch Gardens are truly awesome! ALPENGEIST, the world's tallest, fastest, most twisted inverted roller coaster was voted #1 in America by People Magazine. I am not big on rides myself, but those who dared seemed to get a real charge out of it. The BIG BAD WOLF had riders helplessly suspended from an overhead track as they embarked on their adventure through a deserted Bavarian village in search of the Big Bad Wolf. DRACHEN FIRE, the fire-breathing beast sent riders speeding, looping and twisting through several inverted elements. One of Scotland's most famous legends, the LOCH NESS MONSTER, seemed to come to life. Riders hung on tightly as this double-looping monster threatened to send them plummeting into the depths of the water below. Each of these fantastic roller coasters has its' own personality. For the younger set, LAND OF DRAGONS, has many kiddie-sized rides. It is also the home of Dumphrey the Dragon and his friends. He even has his own three-story tree house where kids can jump, crawl and climb. Dumphrey hosts educational shows, teaching children valuable life lessons, at the children's theater. ROMAN RAPIDS is a cool ride with a large collection of erupting geysers, gushing aqueducts and rolling rapids. We thundered through a very artful and convincing depiction of the ancient ruins of Rome. Then we decided to chill out on the ESCAPE FROM POMPEII. What we expected to be a relaxing boat ride suddenly turned into an adventure packed ride past fire and other surprises. More Williamsburg |
